Class A Certification Checklist

The steps to certification vary by state, so it’s essential to check the requirements for the location where you plan to teach. If you already have your Class B certificate in Alabama, here are some of the requirements for advancing to a Class A certificate:

  • Master’s degree in an education field
  • Official transcripts from a regionally accredited institution
  • Completion of a survey of special education course or an approved diversity course
  • A minimum 3.25 GPA on courses required by the Alabama State Board of Education
  • If you have an Interim Employment Certificate, you must adhere to the requirements and restrictions provided in the Educator Certification Chapter of the Alabama Administrative Code
