Dr. Michael McEachern, MHA Program Director
Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Michael McEachern
Dr. Michael McEachern brings over 30 years of practical healthcare leadership experience as a hospital chief executive officer, chief operating officer, senior vice president, EMS leader, and educator. He has worked in acute and long-term acute care health systems and free-standing hospitals. His experience includes nonprofit, for-profit, religiously sponsored, government entities, and distressed organizations, where his work focused on developing leaders and transforming delivery systems.
While chief operating officer for a two-hospital regional system, Dr. McEachern directed the development of a NeuroSpine Institute, where medical staff membership is contingent on quality outcomes. As chief executive officer of a regional trauma and teaching hospital, he grew a center for research studies in cardiac surgery and Six Sigma programs. Dr. McEachern’s experience also includes transitioning physician-dominated anesthesia services to a collaborative model, including Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and Anesthesiologists. As an EMS leader, he served on regional and state bodies charged with developing EMS standards.
Dr. McEachern’s education experience at the university level includes undergraduate courses in healthcare, leadership, and development and master’s-level courses in finance and leadership. He has taught seminars at the Congress on Healthcare Leadership, hosted by the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), and presented to CEO groups regarding transformation through Six Sigma, LEAN, and simulation. He is a Life Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (LFACHE), a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), and serves on accreditation teams for the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME).
